I recently watched a short video of Zig Ziglar talking about attitude and how a change in attitude can create significant change in our lives. Today, I’d like to share some of my thoughts around attitude and how it helps me achieve better results in my life and online business.
Don’t worry, I won’t talk about simple positive thinking or optimism here, and about the idea that if you think positive everything you want will come true. Rather I want to look at how a positive and responsible attitude can impact on the process of being successful.
Because success is indeed a process (yes, I will never say that enough!). And while we take action to achieve our goals, the way we carry ourselves in the process and the attitude we adopt can determine how we approach tasks, what we do, how we think, how we feel, and therefore will affect our outcomes.
I work pretty hard every day, as a mum and online business owner, (and this is just my nature), but I don’t always achieve great things in a day. I don’t always have big wins, or experience significant growth in myself or in my business. I don’t accomplish big things every single day, and certainly some of the processes that I undertake every day don’t feel extremely satisfying in the sense of just carrying out those processes. Some tasks I feel I thoroughly enjoy and feel passionate and inspired as I carry them out, but other tasks I undertake only because I know they’re part of my master plan.
But when I need to do those tasks that I don’t enjoy, or when I don’t accomplish major goals, or when I hit big obstacles or challenges, is that what I focus on? No!
Sometimes what we need is just a big ‘Just Do It’ attitude: focusing on the plan and knowing that the actions we take have a greater purpose, and having faith that carrying those actions will bring what we want.
So how do I cultivate the most productive attitude for my online business?
I focus my attitude on the opportunity to learn and grow.
I focus my attitude on my own responsibility, knowing that I am getting more and more empowered every day to create more of what I want and less of what I don’t want.
I don’t approach things that I don’t enjoy or don’t see immediate gratification for with negative feelings towards them. I don’t approach things with the attitude that I can’t do something, that I dislike doing something, that something is impossible… What I do, is purposefully focus on the OPTIONS I have, on what IS possible, on what I CAN do, on what I CAN change.
And what does that bring? One of the most powerful feelings in creating abundance: Gratitude! Gratitude for being responsible (response-able), for having options, for having personal power, and for having a can-do attitude. Gratitude for all the things I have now, for all that I have accomplished so far, and for the great forecast I’m creating for myself in terms of what I will achieve in my online business, in my personal development and in my relationships.
And the more I do that, the more the actual process of doing the things I don’t particularly enjoy or see immediate benefit for become more enjoyable, or at least a lot less painful or boring. And even better, I’m creating mind habits and behavioural habits that perpetuate that kind of attitude.
This in turns gives me more PASSION for doing what I do, more RESILIENCE in front of set backs or challenges, more GRATITUDE for what I already have, more RESPONSIBILITY in choosing options, more EMPOWERMENT for achieving my goals, and a STRONG SUCCESS MINDSET for carrying out the process that will ultimately allow me to create great things for myself, for my environment and the people around me.
Having the right attitude for success is about being positive, proactive, responsible, grateful and empowered, all of which must transpire through every thought, feeling and inspired action we carry out in our online business or personal life. Cultivating a productive attitude is definitely a conscious process that is worth applying because of all that it can bring to the process of being successful.
