Successful entrepreneurs aren’t always natural-born; in fact, anyone can develop into a thriving entrepreneur. But, there are some particular entrepreneurial attributes a person must have to be successful in business. Of course, entrepreneurship isn’t for everyone. But with these specific character traits, you can see if you actually have what it takes to succeed with your own online business. Let’s explore the essential entrepreneurial qualities that anyone who is aspiring to start a business should possess.

1.  Independence. This is often the most basic trait of all entrepreneurs. They want to seize their future; so they plan to become their own boss rather than labouring beneath the gaze of a master. An entrepreneur possesses a stubborn sense of independence and can march forward with a strong sense of purpose and crystal-clear personal objectives to achieve.

2.  Persistence and Determination. The world of online or home-based entrepreneurs is expected to be filled with both success and failure. A vital quality of a winning entrepreneur is the devotion to persist pursuing his target regardless of the setbacks and obstacles he might encounter on the road. This persistence and determination is fueled by a burning desire to attain his purpose of succeeding in his chosen online business opportunity and reaching their dream.

3.  Self-Confidence. Together with independence, an entrepreneur possesses self-confidence. They have faith in their strengths and ensure that they can put forward their best effort into their particular endeavours and in turn expect the best outcomes from it. The world of online business is often competitive and is not an area for the half-hearted. Belief in one’s personal abilities is so vital in achieving any objective – particularly in running a business online and gaining exposure.

4.  Creativity. You must be able to create new ideas as well as find new ways in which to solve problems. Creative people are in nature inquisitive, smart and highly adaptable with their thought process. Creative entrepreneurs acutely monitor their environment and have a talent for recognising new trends that could produce an opportunity to grow their business and skills.

5.  Goal-Oriented and Methodical. An entrepreneur is aware of the value in being organised when taking on an online business opportunity. All work must be targeted towards achieving the objective. A smart entrepreneur uses systems for each move they create so that they are efficiently using time and other resources in achieving the targeted outcome. A sensible entrepreneur has the flexibility to consolidate his tactics and sees true worth in leveraging his work.

6.  Visionary. Entrepreneurs have a clear vision for their future. They’re guided by this vision to take every opportunity to be successful. This vision might be for short, middle or long term, however all visions are to ultimately achieve success in expanding one’s business. Committed entrepreneurs can already feel their victory and visualise it clearly even before it takes place.

7.  Taking Calculated Risk and Tolerating Failure. A good entrepreneur realises that shortfalls and failure are inherent to any business venture. So, an entrepreneur must forever be prepared to take calculated risks and face the consequences. Entrepreneurs should have the courage to face failure and start again. Whether or not it is with an online business opportunity or other business venture, a successful entrepreneur never gives up and moves on even though obstacles momentarily obstructs the way.

8.  Hard Work, Commitment and Perseverance. These are possibly the most critical entrepreneurial traits. In taking on a business, there can be no real success without perseverance and hard work. Obstacles are an opportunity to rise above and learn, as opposed to being a call to give up. An unconditional commitment to success is in itself a vehicle for perseverence and hard work.

9.  Integrity. Whether it is with business associates, staff, fellows or investors, entrepreneurs should be honest and honorable in all their business transactions and interpersonal relationships. Genuine online entrepreneurs believe that they possess a genuine online business and surround themselves with associates and companies with a similar commitment to integrity.

Building a profitable business online will require all traits mentioned throughout this article. Whether these qualities are inherent to you or are learnt through practice, they will assist you in creating success for yourself through hard work, commitment, perseverance, patience, independence, vision and integrity.

Thanks Kyle for your comment! I completely agree with you. Being an entrepreneur means that we can be in control and choose our own results. It means we can be inspired and do what we truly have a passion for. It means we can make decisions based on our core values and desires. It means we can use our personal power to make positive change for ourselves and the world around us. So as you said, we all have a natural desire to achieve these things, it’s just a matter of pluggin into it, finding the path, and taking action!

  2. Hi Justine
Since starting an online home business I have come to love what it means to be an entrepreneur. I think the list in your post is pretty comprehensive and a good overview of what it means. For me the beauty of it is that the mindset of an entrepreneur is not restricted to business. I now refer to myself as a business/social/life entrepreneur. The qualities that you clearly outline are qualities of mature human beings. For anybody who wants to grow on the inside, they naturally gravitate toward being an ‘entrepreneur’. This is my conclusion after reflecting on this just the past couple of weeks . All the best, Paul
