So the statistics say that 97% of network marketers fail. Worse even, we encourage people to start in network marketing so that they can be part of the 3% that succeed. Wow, and we expect people to feel empowered by that?

Does anyone else think those success rates in network marketing are appalling? Wouldn’t you rather say this to your potential partners: “You can be part of the 90% of people who succeed in network marketing”?

Business models in network marketing organisations have changed. In particular with direct sales businesses, where there are no more benefits in getting in on the ground floor. As a result, there is no need for 97% of business owners to fail to allow for the other 3% to succeed. In such an organisation, every one has the opportunity to succeed in their online business, no matter where they stand in the organisation and who they join under.

A company which provides an equal opportunity for all their business representatives to succeed displays the following characteristics (and needless to say, these should be strict criteria when selecting an online business opportunity):

ANY CHARACTER HERE

1. Powerful business systems that work for everyone, and that every newbie can tap into.

It is a known fact that most people fail as new online entrepreneurs because they don’t create cash flow from the beginning, and simply run out of money before they can even get their business off the ground. Those business systems incorporate lead generation, marketing funnels, multiple streams of income, lead management systems and education. While preventing the initial overwhelm, these systems do the work while the new marketer builds the knowledge, the mindset and the skill-set required to succeed. Most importantly, these systems are duplicatable, and allow mentors to provide a framework that can work for all and replicate their results, and allow new representatives to generate profits immediately.

2. A compensation plan which eliminates passing up profits for every sale made.

I am not denying here that network marketing is about creating leverage and passive income. However, the most rewarding compensation plans are the ones which ultimately allow the most hard-working and successful network marketers to create profits for themselves, not for their upline.

3. Quality products with high profit margins.

The fastest way to generate a high income is to get high profits. In fact, if often requires a similar amount of effort to make sales and enrol new members, independently of the main products sale price. So if you spend time and money on internet marketing, calling prospects, social media, personal branding, etc., wouldn’t rather receive high profits at the end of the process?

4. A supportive community with shared resources.

In some companies, your chances of success vary greatly depending on which mentor or team you join. This creates 2 problems: firstly, it encourages competition as opposed to collaboration within the community; and second, it leaves behind the people who join under mentors who are either unsuccessful or inadequate coaches. In a truly collaborative community, the knowledge and business resources are shared for the greater good, and irrespective of uplines, downlines and direct financial benefit. Now isn’t that refreshing?

5. Personal and professional development.

Most people who start out in network marketing have no experience as entrepreneurs. There is no doubt that becoming an online entrepreneur requires a strong mindset for success and the development of new professional and personal skills. A company must acknowledge those needs and provide the necessary tools and training to empower and inspire their business associates.

There is nothing more empowering as a mentor to know that your company complies with those 5 criteria, and to be confident that you are providing the best chances of success to anyone willing to take it all in, apply it, and work for it…

…because ultimately, I’m not here to help only 3% of the people who have big dreams and take action.

  1. Great article Justine,

I especially like your first point. Creating cash flow at the start is imperative and what better way to do that than through affiliate programs and systems.

Keeping it simple and duplicatable is the key.
Thanks for laying it out so well!

    Hi Richard,
Affiliate programs and systems are indeed great – as long as we only recommend what we truly believe in. The idea is always to provide and recommend great value, build a strong personal brand and build trust, and ultimately promote our high-end products or business opportunity! What you say here is so true, simple + duplicatable is the only way that we can generate success not only for ourselves but for everyone who is willing to do the work, follow the systems and do some personal development along the way too! It’s all about having a clear path for others to follow and duplicate the results!
Thanks so much for your comment Richard!

    Hi Jennifer,
So great to hear from you – thanks so much for your comment! You’re so right, building an online business is not just about the right company or business plan, but is multi-dimensional and definitely requires the right support and training (and the right mindset of course ;-) )
Sometimes, learning the hard way makes us stronger, and better mentors too in ensuring others take a clearer path to success!
    Here’s to your success!
